The best place to start would be to grab the codes. Check fordfuelinjection . com for a method to jump the contacts or buy a $30 code reader at Kragen (I did, its worth it). Report the codes back here.

the engine has high mileage on it rite?? the problem is that the bearings in the bottom end of the engine have lost their tolerances, and you now have low oil pressure. the oil pressure gauge is not really a gauge, but more an on/off switch. below a certain pressure it will show none, and over a certain pressure it will show normal.the only way to properly fix this is to overhaul the bottom end of the engine.

This same thing happened to me. It was a bad connection at the sensor on the engine. I replaced the connector at the sensor and the problem was solved.

You won't get any codes for the red Engine light coming on. It just means low oil pressure or high engine temperature...
