Hi-I am wondering if someone can tell me if there is ANY differences in a slant-cab frame for F100 and a 1956 frame?I know GMAN has a frame for sale, and it seems reasonable.I found out the hard way that the floors in a slant-cab and a 56 are different. My patch I needed -I plasma cut out of a slant-cab and it is in-deed not like the 56.
I want to buy a roller with wheel and tires -or at least 1 that I could start and buy parts 1 by 1 and build a 56 from the ground up.
This will be my 3rd project-and hopefully will make me happy.?????If ANYONE ELSE HAS A NICE FRAME CLOSER TO OHIO/PA. LINE LET ME KNOW.THANKS
The '53 had a flathead engine, so the crossmembers might be different at the engine and transmission mounts than on the Y-block years. I don't know this fer shure, just guessing.
The rear spring length grew from ~48" on the '53-'54 to ~52" on the '55-'56. The wheelbase is unchanged---if your roller frame comes complete, you won't notice the spring difference with bed&fenders mounted.
Thanks 1stoldtruck!!I think as long as it is 110 inch long and 34 '' wide--I think this is right.I just don't want any surprises, like I had with the slant-cab floors.

I thought the floors were the same in the 53-55/56 except for the battery hole being a different size, at least that's what the Mid-Fifty catalog says.
1stoldtruck is right on. One has to look at a few items, first, are you going to run a Y-block? If so then you will need a cross member installed if the frame you buy is from a 6cyl truck. The Y block powered trucks have an additional cross member. Factory V-8 trucks this cross member is rivited in. I have done the install several times and I just bolt it in and its fine.
Second, The foward cab mount outriggers where they rivit to the frame crack, I have cut up two frames that were severly cracked in this area. I have seen restored trucks (body off) with cracks in the same place that the restorer missed when the body was off.
Third, If I had known you were serious about a frame I would have made you a deal on the one in the white truck. The spare roller is a keeper.
When you come back over take a look at the white 56 frame. I told Oaktree on this site $500.00 for the frame, but something came up and he needed to put it on hold.
I have a 54 f250 removed a six cyl. replacing with a 292Y block, read Kevins post about a different crossmember.I have a truck bellhousing,292 to t98 trans. but now I am wondering about the front mount.I have a truck timing gear cover and mount,do I need anything else or will it mount to the crossmember where the 6cyl. was
thanks RED

Heck, I was holding it for you. It's back for sale now. Please get back with me, guys.
Walford56, Here are some pics of a rolling chassis I bought last year for my 56. I also have a stock 53 and here are a few differences I noted. While they may still function the same, 3 of the 4 brackets for the running boards are different. The one by the battery is the only one the same. I'm pretty sure the rear springs are longer on the 56 vrs the 53/55 models, so I am sure the spring hangers are mounted different also. If you need any other info on the frame or a close up pic of an area, let me know and I will try to help.
53ford--thanks -those really helped.I really want to build a 56 again, like I did when I was 17.This time I will keep it stock.Ihad cut some floor panels to patch my 56F600,and the patch was cut from aslant-cab and the floor is different in the 56.So with your visual aids I can look for the right frame.
I have been in touch with a few guys with frames for sale, and though I would have driven to GMans' place in Virginia,I was not sure it was a 56 frame, and so I am sorry Gman-I didn't hear from you.Bill
