The wifes 97 Expy 4x4 with 102k needs a set of shocks... (never replaced) What is the best deal going? Bilstiens, KYB, Monroe, etc.? Help me out, I need to get some ordered soon! Thanks
It depends on if you have LLS or not. If you do, then Monroes cost about $220 for a set of 4, $140 for the front and $80 for the rear. I'm not sure about the cost of Bilsteins.
If you don't have LLS, they should be cheaper...I hope.
I just put KYB's on mine, easy install, nice ride, got all four for 140 from the Tire Rack a sponsor here. Just click on the icon in the upper right hand top of this page.
My truck is a 2x4 and I do a lot of highway driving. The KYB has a unique grommet setup, it is cone shaped on the bottom and recessed for the top one so you don't have to fiddle with aligning the bushings as you clamp down on them.
Bilsteins are $239 shipped on Ebay. I think they are the best handling upgrade for our trucks. I was very impressed with their ability to cope with squat, dive, and roll our trucks exhibit with the stock shock absorbers. Im very happy with them. GL
Greenscobie86, who did you buy from on ebay? This sounds like a good deal. Even though most of my add-ons come from ebay, I guess I forgot to look there before buying shocks.

I just installed a set of Rancho RS5000's on mine last November, and they're great. I live on a dirt road, and they were a very nice improvement. I got them from samsoffroad, They're normally $150 shipped for a set of 4, but they're on sale for $113.95 shipped right now.
what do you guys think of the rancho rsx, theres a buy 3 get 1 free right now, my wife likes the smoother ride, 97 4x4 expy 4.6L we love it, gobs of room..
I put a set of Gabriel Max Control monotube shocks on my 99 expy. I did have one that leaked but they are lifetime warranty so it was replaced for free. It made a big difference in ride and handling. They run about $50 a piece at autozone.
1) You should see a CK SUSP light illuminated in your dash when you start the truck;2) you should have an air suspension on/off switch on the rt kickpanel; 3) when you start the truck and have all doors closed, you should hear a loud noise (air compressor) as your air shocks are pumped up (you might have to put it in gear); 4) there should be an air compressor under the hood next to the windshield wiper fluid container; 5) if you're under the truck by the rear shocks, you should see two black "air bag shocks" next to each shock.
And just so you know, you might have 4 corner LLS or just rear LLS.
I hope this helps.
