I am putting a crate 302 from autozone in my truck this week, and i am also replacing the tranny. The tranny is an aod by the way. The truck is a 1990 f-150 4x4. Is there any computer mods i can do to get more horsepower, or to help my tranny shift harder? Thanks, any help is appreciated. Also what about chips.......????
Tranny needs a shift kit to firm up the shifts, it's not controlled by the computer. You can advance the timing beyond the recommended 10deg setting for a bit more pep, but the cam is hte heart of the beast.. what does this motor come with?
I plan to put a cold air intake on it, but i can't think of much else. Is there any mods i can do to the fuel injection or the intake to get more tq or hp?

Your stock intake plumbing is already a cold air system, if you put in a filter with an open airbox it will only make more noise and produce less power, especially in warmer temperatures.
To get more power you have to make the engine pump more air, nothing you do to the EFI system will help that. If you are not prepared to change the cam, which is by far the most cost effective thing you can do, then open up the exhaust and install some headers.
well if you havent put it in, and are not in a hurry, and if they'll do it, take that crate 302 back and have em give ya a 351W. But if you're set on the 302, cam, port the exhaust side of the heads, better-than-stock exhaust (gotta let it breathe in and out)..it all depends on how big your wallet is.
You can get a TwEECeR chip for the Speed Density computer, but I dont know much about those.
This is just an opinion, but I think it's a fairly good one. If you're doing a new install, do it right the first time. I'd halt the install until you get everything planned out that you'd like to do. Personally, I think if it took you another couple of months to save for parts and tuning, then I'd have to do it. It sucks trying to piece things together little by little and you have a perfect opportunity to take full advantage of something like a cam install, supercharger install, beefier valve body, etc., while the engine and tranny is pulled.
