Been thinking about getting a winch for my stock f-250.Is the warn xd9000 or the9.5ti portables enough winch for gettin me out?I also have a plow mounted on the truck which is gonna make the mount a problem.
If you decide to go electric, one option is one that quick-mounts into a standard 2" trailer hitch receiver. If you mount a receiver on the front, even with suitable reinforcement, you should be able to avoid problems with your plow. (If you already have a receiver on the back end, you may find that there are times when a winch on the back is useful - both for pulling yourself and for pulling others.)
Mine is a Ramsey quick-mount 5,000-pound pull. Do as fishmanndotcom suggests and get a "****** block" so you can double back the cable and double the pull, because 5,000 pounds will not always be enough. Ramsey includes a high-current quick-disconnect coupler, but only a short cable. Hook the coupler cables directly to your battery with welding cable, or you will not get the full 5,000 pounds of pull. If you use it a lot, a second battery is also a good idea.
