Red face c6 tranny problems

i just got a 85 f150 4x4 with a 5.0 efi the motor is brandnew i just put it in and heve less than 300 miles on it it is a stock replacement and a c6 tranny the truck from what i have found out had a 5 speed manual. if i try to adjust the trottle valve like an aod i only get half throttle on the gas pedal but i have no shifting problems and no slipping. if i adjust it like the book says the tranny shifts into third for a few seconds then it starts slipping and it makes a sound that sounds like holding a popsicle stick against a fan for a few seconds. im stuck like chuck and dont want to pull the tranny again it also seems to me that the tv cable needs to be moved on the tranny to be closer to the pivot point on the arm. i also have a 85 f150 2wd with a 5.0 efi and an aod the motor and tranny are both new and modded for more performance i am selling this one and it runs more than great she is fast.

if any one can help you would be me hero

I am going to assume you have the same c6 that came stock in my 80. It's the older type with a vacuum line going to it.

The vacuum line controls the shifting. It goes to a modulator mounted at the rear passenger side of the tranny. The AOD does not have a vacuum line, so the TV cable controls the shifting.

The linkage on the c6 is for a "passing gear". You can leave it unhooked till you get it figured out, or if you do not want the kickdown function. The way it's setup is the linkage does not move until the last about 1/2 throttle movement. When you floor the gas pedal, right when the throttle is near the flloor the linkage moves and kicks the tranny into third gear.

What I do not know is what tranny setup you have. I am only familiar with the carb setup, which has a hard linkage rod coming from the tranny. If you have a cable, maybe your tranny is different, or possibly someone rigged the cable on there?

Possibly Ford did have the c6 mated with EFI at some time, and you just need the correct throttle linkage on the throttle body?

i do not know what c6 it is and the vacuum lines, module and filter are new(i took the filter in and they matched it up)and if i adjust it like you said, which is the way that the book says, the tranny slips. and yes it is a cable not a rod . i even asked some of my friends who are certified mechanics and they dont know anything about c6 trannys im used to the c4 and the aod and the t5. do you know if the module can be adjusted because it looks like it has a set screw in it that you can see when you pull the vacuum hose off the tranny in an 88 lincoln that i had had a c6 with cable linkage and it also, like my truck, was efi but it was a different upper intake

Yes it can be adjusted. I have the original paperwork from the unit I replaced on mine. It says turn it 1/4 turn clockwise for the shifts to occur at higher rpm. 1/4 turn counterclockwise causes the shifts to be at a lower rpm.

I went to www.car-part.com and typed in a 86 f150 and looked for a transmission. They have been pretty accurate so far and this is what they list for the available trannies in 86, though there is no reference to what engine most of them came with. But a c6 is listed.
