a tiny bit of validation for chevy, from a ford lover

To start out, I consider myself a true-blue FORD lover, but my first car was a '86 chevy nova, manufactured by toyota. it was givin to me by my grandad. it wasn't much to look at, but it had more than it's share of pep, and was an all-around fun car to drive. I reckon it was the exception to the rule, and if i was ever given the option to own another one exactly like it, i'd take it in a heartbeat.

I consider myself as both a Ford and Chevy lover. I don't care for the looks of the late model Ford trucks, and I purchased a Chevy instead, BUT, I like the look of the mid fifties Ford trucks over the Chevys. And I have two of those Fords.

I love my old Fords.

Had a buddy that had a 86 Nova as well. We beat the h..L out of that car and it kept coming back for more...I have to admit that was a damn good car.

Me too. Had a 1972 Chevy 1/2 ton 4x4. Last year of a decent Chevy pick-up as far as I'm concerned. Thick body sheet-metal, no smog and a NP205 transfer-case. It was alot of fun to drive, had 220,000 miles on the original 350 before I thought I'd "improve" it with a manifold change. Managed to drop a bolt into the intake, but didn't notice till I started it up. "Huh...runs good, but what is that 'tackity-tackity-tack' sound.". Bought a rebuilt engine for $700 complete (Only with a 350!) and drove it for another 25,000 before slamming it into a guard-rail to avoid a head-on with a Toyota MR2 (Double yellow line means DON'T PASS!!!). Bought the truck for $2500, insurance gave me $3500. I sold the wreck for $1000, sans engine which I gave to my brother for his van, so I made a $2000 profit on the sucker. Can't be all bad

Sounds like the only validation for Chevy is that they were smart enough not to build the car themselves. If they had, it would have been a junker.

Still a Ford lover here, even after having Edsels, overheating flatheads, and firey Pintos. Have to admit, I wouldn't mind having a '59 El Camino or another Cameo, however...............

I am pro Ford. I have been around a lot of GM vehicles and I do like some of them. We have had several Chevy trucks and have had gotten a fair share of miles out of them. We just retired out 89' Chevy pickup with over 400,000 miles on it. We still have our 89' Ford F-150.
I have a 69' RS Convertable Camaro. Stock 350 with a 2bbl, turbo 350 trans. It would smoke the tires as far as you want it to. No weight to the car at all. I went through 25 tires my first year of driving. A friend of mine saw me spin a manhole cover once when I lit up the rear tires. Lol. It has been in the family since it was new. My mom use to take me to school in the thing. It was my brothers first car when he got his license. The same with my sister and me. It has seen a lot of rough/hard driving and it has also had its fair share of repairs. All in all, it has been a good car.

Jake,

Does it look like this?....

This one was my brother's back in '86. It originally was a 6 cylinder car. He put a 350 in it and restored it to show quality.

Yes it does. The only thing different is that mine is a "rag top". The car is red in color and the top is black. It also has the RS hideaway headlights w/headlight washers. The car has been through hell. Mine is clean with no rust. Garage kept. Had it painted about 5 years ago. I have the antique QQ license plates and I run it when I can on weekends in the summer.

on edit: Didn't see KPayne's post the first time through, there are indeed two real fordmen posting on this thread

Bigfordman, I grew up around all makes and models. I have seen the pro's and con's of every one. That is why I mainly run Fords. Can you think of a better way to know a certain manufacturer is ahead of the game than to have actually compared one against the other?
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do when being in business. You can't always get what you would like to have when starting out. You work with what you got and make the best of it.
I have a friend who own's a Chevy dealership. I still prefer Fords.

Real Ford men like you described belong in Communist Russia or Hitler's Germany.

When I'm with friends, they drive all different brands. We don't seriously knock each others trucks. I look at, sit in and drive the competition. Heck I've even owned them!

This forum is supposed to be taken with a gain of salt.

A real Ford man? I'll bet you that you are a radically right wing christian, white male, have 3-4 guns, and are insecure about the numbers the duramax boasts (because that means your 40k truck isn't the most powerfull). What you need is a shot of whiskey.

As it happens, I've spent the last ten years of my life defending your right to drive whatever the hell you want. I found you your "commie" comment to be truely offensive.

I made my post as a joke (and yes, to needle the chevy guy on the ford site a little), and I fully expected to take a little heat for it (thats part of the fun of these forums) but for you to question my patriotism is way out of bounds.
