1980 Stereo Wiring Problem

I put a CD player in my truck to replace the stock radio. We connected the memory wire to the clock wire in the dash which is hot all the time. The problem is everytime I start the truck I lose all my radio settings -- it seems like the starter is drawing energy from everything in the system. Does anyone have a tip on how to correct this?

What does your starter have to do with it? Look for another 12V constant at the column or the fuse box.

I used the cigarette lighter wire and added a small fuse for the constant supply. Works fine.
