So I’ve been tossing around the idea of putting some lights below the doors for some perimeter lighting because all I have now are my headlights when I unlock the truck, though nice and bright… they don’t exactly highlight the doors and it can get “feel your way to the truck dark” around some of the places I frequent. So I’ve been looking at some underbody LED light tubes that I could mount close to the outside of the body under the doors. I was looking at these http://www.pacerperformance.com/page...ucts.asp?id=11 go down the single row LED’s. Problem being that my interior lights dim out and I don’t know if the dimming circuitry would handle the extra load, anyone know for sure? I know some trucks come with lights in the mirrors and I don’t have those, so I was thinking that it’d be alright being how little LED’s use and not having those extra two lights. Also, anyone know where I can tap into the power for the interior lights? I’m hoping there is something already underneath the truck as I don’t exactly relish the idea of willfully putting holes in it.
Do not know how much power is required for the LED's BUT I think you could tap into the interior light circuit with a relay as a trigger to put power to your LED's. May have to find the correct trigger point. Not sure how the relay would work on a diminishing power feed.
I had thought about a relay, if I could avoid it that’d be best. I’m not sure how it’d react to a slow power loss and having the LED’s dim out would be cooler in my opinion. Anyone know what the wattage on the mirror puddle lights are? I tried to look the bulb up in my manual but it just tells me to see my dealer. I’m pretty sure if I don’t exceed what those would draw everything would be ok.
