Hey guys. Absolutly and info on this will be greatly appriciated. I bought a crate motor off of auto dynamics in october. Never would have but needed the truck running in a week. Shoulda built it myself.
Here's whats going on.
Two weeks ago i shattered a rock and burned up the oil pump.
Fixed all that and it ran pretty good.
One week ago. Shattered another rocker.
Got tired of shattering rockers so i replaced the whole set for a hipo very heavy duty set.
Two days ago. Wadded up a pushrod. thats right. Wadded up. It was bent in about three places and almost broke. Threw another pushrod out. And threw two lifters out.
What could be causing all of this? My cam? My valves? Im at aloss. And plus the motor is under warranty! Its about a 4000 dollar crate motor. so you can imagine my attitude. Anyway. like i said absolutly any help or advice or anything will be greatly appriciated!
You shattered a rock?? Or was that rocker? If it was a rock, that is your problem. If it was a rocker, it is probably their problem. It's your problem if you didn't have oil, or over reved the engine or abused it in anyway during breakin.
Did you mod the engine in anyway during the warranty period? If you did then they have an out. If the engine is as originally delivered, I would go for warranty replacement. Something is wrong with an engine that breaks rocker arms and pushrods. Sounds like either the rockers or the valves are binding or maybe the piston clearance is too small and when you rev it up the piston kisses the valves.
Haha ya. i definantly meant shattered a ROCKER arm. Not a rock. Thanks jim. Ya its completely stock. Bolted a stock intake to it with an edelbrock carb and put a restrictor plate and rev limiter on it as with all my new motors so i dont over rev them or anything while they are being broken in. So i have no idea. In my old motor i threw a rod and blew two big holes in the side of the block. Warped two pistons. Bent the crankshaft. Chipped three cylinder walls. Maybe im just bad luck haha!
if i were you id see if i could take it back and get the money back, go get a block from the junkyard and rebuild it right. if youre stuck with the engine, id say they didnt have the valvetrane geometry right. what heads came on it? if theyre d3ve heads then id go get the crane cams stud kit and some decent roller rockers, and get a pushrod length checker... then order the right length pushrods after checking. my guess is they didnt have the stock rocker arms shimmed properly or didnt have the right length pushrods
