Question -91 cooling problems

Bought this car 6 months ago. It`s overall working fine, but lately i have had some problems with leaking cooling fluid. The fluid was very rusty so i treated
the engine with some cleaning from Bar`s. Then i flushed the engine and the rad. with fresh water. Put a new thermostat in, and added new cooling fluid.
Also put some Bar`s anti-leaking stuff in it. Everything looked to be ok for a couple of days. But today when i drove over the mountains it was leaking again.
The funny thing is that it seems to leak from another location now.
Could it be that i have too high pressure in the cooling system?
If so- any reasons? And sholdn`t the rad-cap reliefe the pressure over to the expansion-tank?

The temp. at the gauge seems to be normal.

Any suggestions..?

ola1234,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

Where does the coolant appear to be leaking at?

The pressure cap should let any excess pressure vent to the recovery tank, but a hole in the hose leading to the tank can spread it everywhere.

Red face

It seems to be leaking at the top of the radiator ( approximately 3 inches down from the top) in center on the front side.

Sounds like a core tube has either been eaten away by bad coolant or a stone has punctured one.

Also could be the solder joint at the tank seam has broken loose.

I have replace dthe cor ein my radiator several times over the years, but the WVDOH loves to use salt here in the winter.
Does a number on everything metal.

The coolant was bad. And there is being used a lot of salt on the roads in Norway too...
Guess the radiator has to be taken out at some point then......

Sounds like the time to pull radiator and have a new core put in.
