E4OD trans slipping

The trans in my 91 250 with 170,000 mile is slipping. I'm thinking of rebuilding it myself. I'm not a mech. by trade but I've been working on my own vehicles for 30 years. I only want to do it once. Or should I just buy a Jasper ?

I've never rebuilt an automatic but Im sure I could figure it out. However for the time it would take me to do it, (prob the better part of a week) and the specialty tools I would have to buy. I could just pay someone else to do it or buy a reman for cheaper. Time=money.

Jasper gets about $ 2200. I'm an electrician, so I can deff. make more money doing a side job or working OT and paying someone else to do everything. This truck could be down a few weeks I wouldn't matter. I just thought it might be fun to do it myself. ( I know, I'm sick ).

lol.......nope..not sick.......sounds like fun if you have the patience........I learned my limitations a long time ago.....body work and trannys. Now that I'm older I have a LOT more patience......but I'm still not sure I'd tackle a tranny.......and I'll never be a body man.
I admire your tenacity......go for it and let us know how it works out!!
Good Luck

Thats what I would be afraid of... Sux to waste the time, effort, and money to rebuild it only to pay to have it rebuilt again. Get it done right and be done with it.

I'm just going get a Jasper. I'll some prices on what it cost to have it done. It probably makes more sense to just go to work on a few Saturdays and pay a pro. Now I'm thinking I could put a plow on this thing. I only put a bout 2000 mile a year on it.

we have received several differant prices from trans. shops but i think i'm going with a shop that works race car trans. and thier tow vehicles. they have promised to do all the upgrades. their price is comparable with other shops in area. and they understand the heavy trailer i will be towing and they are including a trans. cooler in the price. the price is 1700.00 max. i will keep you posted on how this works.
