teh FTE chat also opens the possibility of virus, where as MSN is safe, except for sharing files while using it, viruses won't pass.

I'd like to hear your explanation of getting a virus from the FTE chat and do you think that MSN hasn't been hacked before. Also MSN can be used to send spam messages that pop up in bottom corner of the screen.

Last time my computer went down it was from a virus picked up in FTE chat, computer guy said open chat forums like FTE's are breeding grounds for virus's that you won't pick up on. MSN bocks most of those, and the few that do pop up are either initiated intentionally by someone on your contacts list or are very easy to spot, such as the spam in the corner.

Well I'll be the first to jump in, I'm all in for doing a chat sometime if it's with the whole group or 1 person don't matter to me.
I'm lazy so I like MSN since I already got it all set up.

I'd like to meet this computer guy. I've been on the FTE chat for over a year and never have had a problem. I've found that my sister on MSN has messed my dad's computer and her laptop several times. I've been on the internet since 1996 and in that time, I've had ONE virus. It was the SIRCAM one but I just downloaded the removal tool from Norton and it was gone. I've built over 10 computers from scratch, installed high speed internet for Sasktel, fixed computers for my school division and around my home town.
The thing I've found is that many people treat their computers like their cars. They drive it till there is a problem then they want it fixed. Now if they did preventive maintenance things work a whole lot better.
