color question

color question
can somone help me decode the E81 of my 66 f100, the only colors according to ppg that year is poppy red , am i on the right track here?, thanks,.... also is there someplace that can tell us how the truck was equipped , ie: tires, rims, interior options ,,,,thanks again

If the paint code is E for 1966 my Dupont computer comes up as candy apple red. When it comes to names of paint all names are not the same, the colors may be the same but the names for each company will most often be differant. If you want the dupont code it is 4737. Good luck

First of All Let me say Welcome to FTE and the 61-66 F Series Forum 
I believe there was a Rangoon Red in 1966 for the F Series Trucks also. In fact Rangoon Red ran for several years. The links posted already are good ones for paint color decoding.

First and formost, Welcome!!! Are you referring to the trim code for the 66. Probably off the mark but is the E before the body code '81' referring to the interior trim. Don't have a listing for soft trim code but an example in the manual list E81 as Custom Cab with red vinyl and red woven (E81). Sorry if confusing the matter.

You have listed the interior trim and body code, not the paint code. The letter(s) for the color code are listed after the wheelbase on the VIN plate.
E = Red Crush Vinyl / Red Cody Pattern Woven Plastic
81 = 81B Custom Cab

yes you are correct thanks, the paint code was JM, wich was Rangoon red = J and Wimbeldon White =M, thanks for the help

Hopefully this website will provide info. Unfortunately could not copy directly to view the correct chip but by entering the correct year it will. The 66 chip chart for Rangoon Red and Whimbledon White refers to the 65 chart in order to view the chips. Apparently Rangoon Red and Whimbledon white were both offered in 65 & 66. Should be able to get the paint code numbers to cross reference for local auto paint supplier. Suggest purchase chip sample, or small quanity to compare if should decide to purchase.

The 65 shop manual is not specific in describing shades of red, or white. Under the exterior paint color codes chart it list (J) spec # as 1515-A described as 'red', and (M) spec# 1619-A as 'white'.
