Troubleshooting help

Hi, I have a 2005 F150 that had the service engine light come on Thursday.Kind of long lead up story but when I started it that afternoon the RPMs jumped to over 2k for around 30 secs or so then went down to normal. But as I drove off the car now shook more then usaul. But it drove home without issues. Then that evening when I went to leave again it had to crank it a couple time to start it and it still had the extra shake to it and the light then came on.I bought a code reader and the codes P0172 and P0303 or something like that stating misfire on cyl. 3.I was going to take it to the dealer but read the warranty book finally and it said my warranty would be void if I didnt have the dealer do all my maintainence. Is this true I do my own but I have also not saved all my receipts.Any info would be appreciated.Sorry this is so long....

If the real problem can be traced back to maintenance that you did or should have done, then I suppose a real pr1ck of a service manager will force you to provide receipts or make you eat it. I'd be surprised if your problem falls into that category.

There have been a few cases posted about stuck injectors. If your misfire is due to a stuck open injector, you want to get that sucker fixed as fast as possible. You may not want to even drive it to the dealer if that really is the problem, others have posted about melted cats and other fun stuff. If it's just a bad coil, it wouldn't hurt to drive it there.
