Fuel Guage Woes
full. Now heres the funny part....Everytime im facing UP a hill the gas guage drops an 1/8 to a 1/4 tank every time, and doesnt come back up. On a 9 mi ride home from work, i know i have a full tank, but the gas gauge reads a little under 1/2!! I can't speak civillyis going on ??
How can i fix this problem and where can i get the correct parts at?
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated !!
Thanks
Craig
Is it best to remove the tank when less that half full or near empty and do the necessary R&R of the sending unit?
Or is cutting into the floorboard a good thing? I can't find the url that shows how to do the hole in the rear cargo floor, but when I saw this, I thought that it might be a risk since you probably have to make sparks in order to cut the hole. right? Isn't that a kaboom in the making?
Then what do you cover the hole with? The cutout will be too small and it's corrugated so adding a flange will be a *itch. I mean I don't want to smell anything, especially gasoline.
Are there any other easier ways to getting to that unit?
Ron
ps: who has the sending unit for the best price? i hope i don't have to get it from the dealer.
thanks for the input. . . . . so, to get a propper fitting corrugated cover w/ overlap, you need a piece of floor from a donor bronco., , , , Hmmmmmmmm,
I found that article too. even mentioned it in another msg.
for those who don't want to read the entire page, here is what was said about the sealing and covering of the hole;
"For the best fitting cover (access panel) you'll want a piece of floor from a donor Bronco, or pickup beds may be similar, I'm not sure? I got a piece of floor about a foot square, and it has enough overlap to cover my hole nicely. It will be anchored w/sheetmetal screws (holes visible in above pic) and lots of silicone."
if i do it, i'll use a flat sheet cover and use epoxy putty to fill the voids, then a piece of wet-suit (rubbatex) for a gasket.
