Front fuel tank question

So I have a leaking front tank. I order the tank (19 gallon)and of course gave all my info. It comes in and it is about 10" too long and is too narrow and is shaped differently (a lot) and the straps do locations are totally different (maybe regular long wheel base). I call back and they say the only other fuel tank and they say there is only a 16 gallon available and that is what it has......Since I have had this truck I run the tanks down to 1/4 tank and can get 15-16 gallons into it at that time. I ran this one down as far as I dared and it took forever...probably 75-100 miles, which sure is a lot more than 16 gallons. Anyone have a place that will sell me the right one and straps reasonable? Seems like I read 19 in the front 20 in the back or 18, but it sure wasn't 16. I will have to get the book out and see if I can find it again. Thanks.

I have a 97 F-350 4x4 and I have a 19 in the rear and a 23 up front. I am pretty sure most all the rears are 19 gallon tanks.

Well I have my owners manual in front of me and I measured the wheel base...155" which it is a F-250 crew cab 4x4 short box. It says 19 gallons front 18.2 rear. It also lists a 152" wheel base crew cab 4x4 which has a 16.5 gallon front tank. What is the explanation on that? I might be confused though....wheel base is center of hub to center of hub, right? It shows I have the wheelbase of a f-350 crew cab doing it this way. The next wheelbase down is 152".

Not sure. I have a Long-bed 350 and my front tank is the long gray plastic tank that rides up along the drivers side of the frame. My rear is the standard 18-19 gallon tank. I would have to look at my manual for the wheelbase on mine, but I do know that it is about 2 feet longer in the rear than a shortbed.

F250 extended cab long box 4x4.

72 liters front 68L rear from my owners manual(canadian)

72 liters would be on pace with your 19 american galons

If you got the old one out bring down for sample and even tell them your build date of the truck although I have a hard time seeing that being a difference.
Many times I've got wrong parts and phone back and then they bark at me its the correct one so I pull my old one off and drop it on the counter and tell them to find the right part. Thier computer was wrong this time and many times before. most recent one was a washer pump.

Actually it is a crew cab short box and like I said I can run it to 1/4 tank and always put 15-16 gallons in it. It took me roughly about 100 miles to put it below "E" to get it as empty as possible and it still hasn't run out, but that is close enough. I can't find it online anywhere that has a 19 gallon tank in my style. The 16.5 gallon looks similar from pictures, but the rear it a lot higher on mine then goes under the frame. The skid plate (which I'm leaving off) fits perfectly so I will say that it is the original tank. I bought it 2 years old so I doubt anyone replaced it in that time anyway.

I cannot imagine that yours is any different than mine, being a 97. I believe they are 19 gal. in the rear.

It is the front tank, the saddle style. I have looked all over on line and they all list it as 16.5 and the 19 gallon ones are too long. I just can't imagine mine would be so different so I guess I will have to order the 16 gallon although I have been putting 16 gallons in a tank that is 1/4 way full for almost 10 years now and have never run it out, even on trips where I have run it down pretty good.

Yes it's inboard. It kind of splits the cab and bed.

I have a '97 Crew Cab, Long-bed, 168" wheelbase. Front tank is 19 US gallons; rear tank is 18.2 US gallons. If it makes a difference, my truck is automatic.

From the pics I have looked on the net, it looks like I have a 16.5 gallon tank. Can you really put like 3-4 gallons extra in it with the hoses and such?? I don't think so but I will soon find out how much I can pack in when the new one shows up. Thanks for the replys.

Nope, definately different than mine. Mine is 42" or so. I have resorted to the fact it is a 16.5 gallon, just scratching my head of how I can put in more than that. Thanks for the measurements.

Well I ended up getting the 16.5 gallon tank in and I installed it tonight and everything is fine. I filled it up and I can put 18 gallons in it, go figure. I have been putting 15 gallons or so in when I hit a 1/4 tank so it didn't surprise me.
