Sorry for all the questions!
Im self employed, and I drive my truck a lot. My last Diesel was a 94 turbo diesel and I had over 200K on it. Just got an incredible offer on it one day and let it go.

What vehicle do you plan to run on WVO/BD ?

I'd like to make a laughing smiley face right now, but yeah i was gonna say that would be one sick *** amount of fuel to go through every week

That aint nothin. My fuel bill used to be 1500 to 2500 depending on how hard I ran. I carried 128 gallons and had to fuel up almost 4 times from Indy to Cali with a load.

true, but to make that much biodiesel everyweek by yourself and to drive that many miles a week would be killer is what I was saying

I'm thinking about the biodiesel route, and homemade processor. Got a few things on the list ahead of it though.

I dont think I'll be able to set everything up for bioD for at least another 2 years myself...next home loan I guess I'll be able to put everything together... I want like a seperate shed and all that for the processing, I hope to set things up so I can just collect some wvo once a week or once every two weeks by making my rounds to the local restaurants, and then maybe spend a couple short hours a week in the processing shed, and just have a nice big above groud 250 gallon oil tank next to the garage or something w/ a fuel pump so I can just back right up to it and fill the truck up... but it's like I dont even have the garage yet to put the oil tank next to! almost there though..... I guess these processors can get hazardous too so I'll have to take out some more trees.

I dicused the topic of running WVO with a setup in the truck to filter it.

I'm not sure how well it will work due to my low understanding of the ammount of filtering needed to filter WVO to run it.
However, a tool box mounted filtering system into an aux tank should do the trick so I think.
A heated element on the tip of the fill tube will heat the oil before its drawn through the filters, and then into the aux tank.

Has anyone tried to do that?

I figured no seting up a system that would run both Bd, and WVO, so when I get home, i can just dump the already filtered WVO into another setup to make more BD.
The trick is to be able to stop anywhere and fill up.

Grab a sandwitch at the greasy spoon and throw in, "anychance i can get your fryer oil?"

Thoughs?

As for BD lubrication.
BD will always lubricate better when made properly over regular desil.

If your looking to get some use out of your oil used oil, you can filter and mix your oil in with the offroad desil in 10-20% ammounts. I would do this with tractors only. They are a lot heartier.

Friends of mine make ethanol out of grass clippings.
The sky is the limit, always look for things you can do!

hmmm, u gave me an idea, how would it be to run like a 50/50 kerosene/wvo mix? would the 2 even mix good? if you can get wvo for free basically and just do some reall good filtering you'd basically at least be spending 1/2 what you would by running straight diesel or kerosene... Anyone ever try running on something like that?
Hey Talyn you were talking about heated filters, the best idea I've come across so far has been to have a custom heat blanket made to wrap around your filter....

No, not heated filters.

I havn't put much thought into the filtering system yet. I did not think about heating it before filtering. Which is a great idea, thanks! I'm sure i could come up with an interesting coper tubeing/coiled heating setup.

My idea when heating your waste oil is to use the cooling system of the truck.
That should run more then hot enough for the oil.

I think i would eventually run to much coolant lines however.
I'm sure an easy electric setup could work, simple resistance like a soldering iron, but in a coil.

I dont know about doing a 50/50 kerosene, thats not my field.
I talked to jeff tonight, they run 50oil 50offroad diesel. Which if you go to their farm its kinda creepy, but the tractors will run on it, just really smokey.

If i knew how diesel engines responded to kerosene, i would let you know.
But i dont belive that the kerosene and the WVO will stay mixed properly.
Kerosene will cause oil to break down, even though its oil based. I use it to clean engine parts. So, i would think not a good idea.

How do you do this CoolGuy? Have you done this or are you just still researching? In my situation that would at least work in the Spring & Fall.
It's still cold here in NE Ohio, on a day like today, just above freezing & into the 40's that should help out alot.
