Looking into buying a 96 Bronco that is exactly what I've been looking for, but it has some damage to the dash as a result of a theft of the stereo. It appears to be isolated to just the piece of the dash where the stereo sits that runs from the middle to the passenger side, which I think is replacable seperate from the entire thing. I am posting a pic of the damage -- looking for info on if it is in fact seperate, and if so, what does it take to replace it?
try Ebay too......Parts and accessories/interior/dash parts/ford.........I got my instrument bezel there........I see that radio bezel there a lot.....just be careful......they sometimes "forget" to tell you if something is not broken......I had to work on one of the mounting holes before i could get it on but it's holding well now. My fault for not sending a mail and asking I guess.
Good Luck
Thanks for the replies. Can't tell enough because I'm not used to seeing these trucks (going from memory and pics). This piece is directly next to the stereo obviously, but I can't tell if it's the one in the diagram or not. It would be nice if it was easy to replace.
Haynes manuals and here.......you can get a used manual off Ebay too....or a new one at a parts store. Generally have info on all that.
Here.......asking what the "tricks" are is always good......somebody has done it and can help you not make the bad mistakes.
The bezel I replaced had 2 mounting screws under the horizontal trim pieces. They were pried off easily with a small screwdriver.....then the screws were accessed.
The "trick" on mine was removing the headlight switch ****......I got that info both here and Haynes.
No idea on yours....but someone here will know......try a search
Good Luck
I can't tell from pics but it looks like just pad (sort part of dash) is broke. eBAy would be best bet. Because your local yards are picked over check anyway.
Did they break plastic behind it where radio mounts? That is part of whole dash.Usuually they do. Also they probably stressed/broke the bezel (black trim thing around speed o) But its easy to replace. so is the pad for that matter. Good luck on search
lmc does not carry the dash pad. but ebay has them all the time, i've found some in junkyard that weren't cracked up. mine was held on with studs and bolts going through the dash, i accessed them by pulling the glove box out. there is two right above the radio and another on the narrow side to the left, the radio will need to be out of the way to get to them. hopefully they didn't break the dash itself.

Thanks again for the replies everyone.
95Ford4x4 - Sounds like you've changed the same piece before...doesn't sound hard the way you describe it.
I'm looking at purchasing this truck, I don't have it readily accessible to check out, so this is one of the things that I will base my descision on -- more info is better!
Is it just a matter of removing the radio and glove box and the screws are up underneath or is there more to it? If you could give me as close to a step-by-step as possible that would make this easier on me. Also, I have removed the glove box before no problem. The radio in the newer trucks I know use the tools to pop out the factory radios -- how do aftermarket radios get held in there and how do they come out for me to fix this?
---you know how to remove glove box
---the trim piece running across front of dash is held in with clips, it will pry out, gently though, the plastic can be brittle
---my truck had aftermarket radio and it was just sitting in hole, all i had to do was grab it and it pulled out so i can't give you any advice on that.
---once it is out of the way though just use a wrench, i think the nuts are 10mm, and loosen the two above the radio hole and the one to the left, once they are broke loose with wrench, mine came off pretty easy by hand, i guess depending on condition of truck and enviroment they could be rusty and harder to get off.
---then there are four i think you can access from where you pulled the glove box.
sorry can't help with radio, you never know how someone may put in an aftermarket one, you may just have to feel your way through it, i've got an installation kit for an aftermarket radio that i am going to use to put another radio in my truck.
Great -- think I've got it now. Doesn't sound too difficult actually...I was thinking I was going to have to pull the dash!
Just for clarification -- I pull the trim piece to get to bolts underneath it? Then I pull the radio to get to bolts behind it? And then the rest are up behind the glove box?
My one other question about this that I can't tell from your description -- are the nuts behind everything that I'll have to bend all funny to get to or will they be right in front of me when I pull the trim piece across the dash off?
i think under the trim piece is where you might have to access the radio, you will have to reach into the hole for the radio and hole from the glove box, the studs holding the dash pad on go out the backside of the pad. as you look at the pad in the truck, imagine the bolts going straight through the dash. you can actually stick your arm into the glove box hole and reach the ones above the radio that way also, once you have the glove box out and look up in there you will see what you have to do. the hardest thing you are probably going to have to figure out is removing the radio.

I'm betting I'm going to have trouble finding a tan dash pad for my truck. I wish I could say it is damaged from the sun, but it is damaged because the total POS Sony Xplod stereo wouldn't work unless you pounded on it a few times, and one time I missed with a strike and cracked the heck out of my pad.
Not to worry, though- The Sony stereo has been replaced, and I'm waiting to take the Sony lump of feces to the rifle range- it has a date with a .222, and I'm going to make it live up to it's name. If there's anything left after that, it's going into a 15 ton Greenerd arbor press.
Ended up not going through with the truck. It was optioned exactly how I'd want it to be -- 96 Bronco XL w/ 351/auto, Limited slip, no other options. May have had some type of HD engine cooling, it did have an oil cooler (factory type). Only problem was the truck was definitely not clean. It had been a US Forest vehicle and looked beat underneath. Too bad. Need to find one that is nice and clean like that.
yeah, you can get low mile government vehicles cheap, but they get rode hard and put up wet. i remember some hummers we had in germany that only had 15k on them that were ragged out. but usually they are regularly serviced even if they are rode hard between those services.
