Vacuum pump pulley question
I picked up a new vacuum pump from Napa yesterday. I had them press the old pulley on the new pump today. I ended up having to pull the pulley (replacement bolts weren't quite right) and I re-pressed it on with a puller/press designed for power steering/alternator etc pumps.
My question, which is probably stupid as I can't believe it would be this, is:
Is the pulley supposed to run on an eccentric? It looks totally flush at the end (from the front). There's maybe an 1/8" wobble with it. I can believe the insides have some sort of cam that creates the vacuum, but not the pulley. The pulley sits flat on both the inside & outside. I'll pack it to work with me tomorrow and chuck it up in a lathe & mic it to see if there's any built-in wobble.
I did not check this before disassembly, of course. This may have been there since I bought the truck. I just don't know. I can not find this part on y2kford nor rockauto.com. Every junk yard I've been to locally has exactly zero diesel Fords in the yard (well, zero with an engine to grab parts off of anyway).
If this is warped/broken, where should I look for a replacement?
Thanks for any info,
Mike
It's hard to explain...it's like the inner hub is out of round. If viewed from the side while rotating by hand there's a definite wobble as it turns, not on the hub, it's nice & tight. I did not try to roll it across the floor to see if it's out of round on the outside. Your comment though matches with my thoughts that it should be round. It may have been dropped at some point but it wasn't by me

Any ideas where to find another? When I checked IH's price on the pump they claimed it came with a pulley. They may be able to sell me one separate. They were about $50 over the price of Napa. This is going to be an expensive pump if I have to buy 2 of them...

the wobble is not supposed to be there. the pulley most likely got bent a bit when it was pulled/pressed.
i have never had any luck with the pulleys, every one i ever did ended up bent, so i just replace them now.
Thanks for the part #. I could actually find it on your site after that
I'm trying to find one locally, junk yard or otherwise as I need to haul the kiddo's horse to a jump practice this weekend. If I can't, I'll arrange some other form of transportation for the horse, order from you & install next week. Thanks a bunch!

I actually have the service manual on CD for this thing. I forgot about it before I posted before. I checked just now though and still can't find the part on your site without the full part #. Am I going to be stuck having to call/pm/email you to find specific items? My service manual lists that pulley as 2L487.
Also, if there's any way you guys could add a cookie feature so users wouldn't have to start from scratch every time we connect it'd be cool. Something even where we could have multiple vehicles so we could just grab one ala Schucks/Autozone would be great.
Thanks again for the info, I *will* be ordering parts from you in the future!
