I LIVE ON THE WEST BANK/SOUTH OF NEW ORLEANS. AFTER 4 WELL KNOWN SHOPS (WESTBANK I DIDNT WANT TO CHANCE THE 20MILE DRIVE ACROSS THE RIVER) LOOKED AT MY BRONCO NOBODY COULD TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG/CAUSING A CHIRPING NOISE AT ALL SPEEDS. I FINALLY TOOK IT TO CRANE AND TEMPLET THEY DIDNT KNOW EITHER. THEY SUGGESTED DOING SOME PM ON THE FRONT BEARINGS LOW AND BEHOLD 1 BEARING ON BOTH SIDES WERE DRY ON THE AUTO 4X4. NO OTHER SHOPS WOULD EVEN GET TO THAT POINT. SEVERAL PEOPLE SAID DRIVE IT TILL IT BRAKES OR THE NUT WAS BACKING OUT ON THE SPINDLES. THIS COST WAS 240$ TO HAVE THIS SERVICE DONE. WHICH WAS A BARGIN COMPARED TO THE 300$ A SIDE FOR NEW HUB ASSY. I'M NEW TO THE BRONCOS AND SORT OF MECHANICALLY INCLINED, IM GLAD I HAD THIS DONE BY A SHOP THAT KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING WITH THE AUTO LOCKING HUBS. HOPE THIS IS HELPFUL TO OTHER MEMBERS. GOD BLESS AMERICA! AND UP YOURS TO THE PEOPLE WHO THINK THE PLEDGE OF ALLIGENCE IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.
Curtis,
I'm also in New Orleans, glad to see someone else from here!
My 86 is chirping pretty loudly, I suspect either the bearings like on yours, or one of the u-joints.
Let me know if you run across any other good service folks.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Aug-02 AT 12:22 PM (EST)]Paul, glad to hear from you, sorry it took so long to reply, my modem was hit by lightning. the places i can tell you not to take it is midas on lapalco blvd. the goodyear supposebly truck and service on the westbank expressway, belle chasse automotive and i think its johnny's on general meyer up near the gno bridge. crane and templet these people can do most any work you want and they did a great job, it took them about 3 days but i had another vehicle. the 4x4 system works with no unusal noises. i do have a vibration between 35 and 45 i know its not the tires rims or rotors. i'm going to have them check that out soon as i recover from the replacing the alt. smog pump and o2 sensor. i did have mieneke on belle chasse hyw. install a 40 regular flow master on it sounds great im going to install a high flow cat. mark hernandez is who i delt with. he spent alot of time talking to me about it. he even did a demo on his jeep cherokee it did have a 318 in it but its not that much different. it was about 270 for a 2 1/2 single in and 2 1/2" single out angled out the rear corner and tip. the flow master kit is about 300 w/shipping no tip and you have to install it your self. i do know that 4x4 specialties do good work they are high i think. if you have any good info or tips be glad to hear from you. later curtis
