I just bought a 88 Bronco, everything seems to be in working order but every time I start it a "rear antilock" light comes on, can anyone tell me what the problem is?
I've battled this problem twice on my '89 Bronco already. With the key switch on, the light would come on like is supposed to do. After the engine started, the light would go out for about 5 seconds and come back on immediately. The source of the problem for me was the sensor located in the top of the rear differential. Replaced it for about $20-25 and it fixed the problem.
The second time, the light was intermittent. Sometimes it would stay on and other times it would go out when I started down the road. I replaced the rear brake cylinders and brake shoes, bled the brakes and it fixed it.
I believe there is a brake control module under the dash mounted to the firewall behind the ashtray. You may want to check this also. Hope this helps.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Aug-02 AT 06:15 PM (EST)]I had same problem on my 88 Fronco, it was HCV under the frame of driver side. I picked up from junk yard for $ 40.00. (Try to bleed HCV first.)
