Any tips one taking out the bolts to remove the torque convertor? It is a 5.0/AOD out of a 87" Continental, and I am having some problems. Is there any spray that break lock tight or anything like that? thanks
The nuts that hold the torque convertor to the flex plate have little serations on the bottom to keep them from backing off. I normally use a breaker bar with a socket and a pry bar to lock the flex plate from moving. If there is lock tite on the threads a sharp rotating blow will break them free.
Opps I forgot to mention that the pry bar is long and skinny enough to reach between the block and flex plate to hold the torque convertor in place. The end of the pry bar is curved just a bit to catch on the block webbing. You might end up using a strap wrench to hold the harmonic balancer. Not the best way to do it but if it comes down to it, it'll work.
I put a large torque wrench on the crank bolt and lodge it against the frame rail then I loosen the torque converter nut. I then rotate the engine using the same large torque wrench and repeat the process till all are loose.
The engine is out , hanging from a cherry picker, so I dont have the frame to lodge it against, I am going to try again tonight, hopefully I can break the other 2 loose, thanks for the help, hope it works
