Did anyone try the Hedman's with the ball and socket hook up on the collectors. I called the order in without checking first I used the order # from the last set I bought that still had the ring you just bolt your header muffler right up. Ring to ring, gasket in between, must have been to easy someone had to change it.
Oh yeah they are available the way I used to buy them but now they cost 400.00 instead of 175.00. I'm thinking about cutting the ball thing off and welding on a ring. What do you guys think?
Thanks Craig
Ball and socket is supposedly a better seal (no personal experience). Why make more work for yourself? It comes with the opposing end of the socket to run your exhaust so why not just hook up your muff right there?
Well I dont have the ball type..But alot of guys I know use them..and they swear by the ball.. Its easier to hook up at different angles...and you get a positive seal...
I've used them at work and the only problem we had with them was getting the bolts that hold the header to the exhaust pipe kept coming loose. We tried lock nuts, lock washers, and even double nutted them. We finally tack welded the nuts in place and since then have had no problems. It is definitely much better not having to worry about gaskets and as you said the different angles you can put them on is definitely better. Once we solved the bolts coming loose problem, I love the ball and socket design!

Whats the part number you ordered? The Hedman site doesn't show the ball type headers in the pics for the FE series trucks, and I'd like to get them.
Here's the #. I got them from Summit. 89120. To answer the other question I already have a set of header mufflers that have the ring on them, like I said you just bolt the rings together with your gasket in between theres no U clamps. Thanks for your replies. Craig
PS. you can't always go by the pictures.
I've got the ball type and they are leak free and its really nice to be able to position the pipe coming off the header, instead of bein locked into one straight position.
i have the ball socket type and they work mint. yes i also have to tighten them up once in awhile but i check them at every oil change so its not to much of a problem to me.
