HI all, it's been a long tine since I've been here... Long story, but I have internet now...YAY!
anywho... The old ford's water pump finally died. Being that this truck is my baby (77 f150/302/c4), I gotta get it back up in the next day or so.
While I'm replacing the ol' water pump I thought this would be a good time to install a straight up timing set. What else should I do while I've got the front torn off of this beast? All suggestions welcome. Budget is ~$250-ish maybe a little more if I let the wife buy herself something nice har har har.
New hoses and belts. A tune up ta get all ya can out of the new gear set. Oil change of course and new coolant. Go easy on the RTV. Tie your gaskets on with tread ta hold them in place. Leave the tread there as I won't hurt a thing.
Spend some time removing the bolts. If they do not turn out easily alternately loosen and slightly retighten them to break the corrosion. If you dont you may break of a bolt in the block. Corroded bolts should be replaced. I always use antiseize when reinstalling.
Replace the timing cover if there is any evidence of pitting or corrosion in the water passages.
Do a complete cooling system flush.
