speedometer up and down

i bought a 89 bronco with 351 in it , it run's great but the speedometer go's up and down never stays still while running ,, any idea's on a fix for that?

My guess would be a new cable. AutoZone carries them for about $15 around here.

On my old GranPrix the plastic speedometer drive gear in the transmision was stripped and it did the same thing. While cruising at 75 mph the speedometer read 35-40 mph. Whenever we accelerated or slowed the needle was all over the place. On GM vehicles the color determines the ratio on the gear. Wrong color = wrong ratio = speeding ticket. I'm not sure if FORD uses color codes or not. Good luck.
