synthetic oil

my 2006 has 15000 miles and was wondering or thinking about using synthetic. Does it hold up better than non synthetic in the 6.0? If so what is the best oil and filters out there?

#1. Synthetic is better, but costs more for a lesser return, but piece of mind sometimes is priceless. The synthetic probably won't increase the life of the engine by much. The easiest and best method yet, is conventional oil of whatever weight fits your temperature range and change it at 5k.

#2. Motorcraft oil, motorcraft or fram oil filters.

I like running synthetic in my truck. One of the big advantages is when the temperature changes a lot. It can go from 9 degrees today to 52 on Saturday. It actually is doing that here this week supposedly. I've always had good luck running Rotella Syn. It is pricey though...

I think Synthetic is great ! After i drained the break in oil at about 600 miles I have put Rotella T 5W/40 Synthetic in all oil changes. One of the things I have noticed is the synthetic oil seems to stay cleaner for longer periods. I have checked the oil at like 3000 miles and it looks brand new (nice and clear). You can get Rotella T 5W/40 synthetic at Wal Mart. and they also have the Fram oil filter. They say you can get anywhere from 7500 to 9000 miles between oil changes on the synthetic. I change mine between 5000 and 6000. Oh also the starting viscosity is 5W instead of 15W so that may help in sarting lubrication especially in colder weather I believe.

I have been using Syn oil for years and my 95 7.3 had 310239 mile on it when my son totalled it. 10000 mile changes and a bypass filter for it life. I would use nothing else. The bypass filter and syn oil was my first mod.
