4.10 Gears

I have a 2006 F150 5.4 4x4 with 3.73 gears, I tow a enclosed trailer and im putting 305x65x18 BFG's on next week so i was thinking gears would be very helpful - Have any of you installed them? If so how much of a pain was it? Thanks

I think you're going to be better off finding a shop that can do it right the first time and gladly pay them to do it for you.

It's a fairly technical process that is no where near a bolt in type of application. Unless you have done it before successfully, you are in for a steep learning curve, and the cost of failure can be high if you start getting in to ruined gears, ruined bearings, and/or a stranded vehicle.

OK, if your going to pay the money to regear, then you might want to go to 4.30 or maybe even 4.56 gears since your going to over sized tires and you tow.

I've seen how to regear, read how to regear, and everything about regearing countless times, but have never felt comfortable enough to try it.
IT is really a job for a professional, and cost about $1,500 for parts and labor for both axles.

I have set up a good amount of gears so the install im not too woriied about. I have never done a install on a IFS truck however, I guess my question is more about how tough the install is regarding the IFS side and what would I have to do to the computer... Thanks

Ahhh, you didn't mention your experience level the first time.

Haven't had a chance to see how buried the front diff is myself yet.

For the computer, that should be a fairly simple fix down at the dealer or with your own "tuner" such as the Edge Evo that a lot of people talk about.
