pressure regulator

I have a 1992 Explorer 4.0 liter. Fuel is coming out of the vacuum port on the regulator. Is this an indication of a bad regulator or could something else cause it?

you have a bad regulator.

do not drive the vehicle until you repair it.

have you ever seen an engine compartment fire?

you do not want this.

What has happened is the diaphragm has ruptured on the regulator. Simply put, the vacuum line is sucking raw fuel straight into the intake. This will cause an EXTREME rich running condition which can destroy your catalytic converters, wash out your rings, and dilute your engine oil with fuel (which can lead to engine damage). Also when the engine isn't running the fuel pressure can push the fuel into the intake, which can fill it up to the point the fuel can run out of the air intake, into the air cleaner.. and pose a severe fire hazard.

Do not delay repairing this!

Good luck

based on what MazdaRangerGuy said in his post would it make sense to also do an oil change after having this problem?
