I have never dynoed my '90 Bronco's 302,but added a nice set of 2 1/4" dual exhaust to help it breathe a bit easier. The former owner installed a mild cam in it,too, but I don't know it's specs.....just an RV-type cam(i.e. for low end torque/pulling power).I figure Ford rated the EFI302 at 185net@3,800rpm, but my 302's tach hits 4,200 at WOT.I "guesstimate" about 260bhp,or 185-190 at the rear wheels. It definitely has more low & mid-range torque than our '86 Bronco's 302, which was factory stock. Maybe I should dyno it? It has 120,375 miles on it,and still feels powerful.
I think I just found the answer in the 1989 Ford Light Trucks Facts Book(Dealer Album). It lists on page 7 "Taxable HP" for all engines. The EFI302's taxable hp is listed as 51.2 .This would mean if it was rated at 185net horsepower, around 133.8 horsepower was getting to the ground.
For that year(1989) the EFI460 was rated at 230 net horsepower @ 3,600rpm, and 390 lb./ft. of torque @2,200rpm.The '94-'97 EFI460 was rated at 245 net & 255 net(F-Superduty),with torque ratings of 395-405 lb./ft. depending upon application.Generally, the accepted rating is 400 lb./ft. @ 2,200rpm.For '94-'97 engines, the rated horsepower peak was bumped up to 4,000rpm.
