I am converting a 92 f150 4x2 into a 4x4. The donor truck is a 96 4x4. Is it possible when I make the change to change over to push button 4x4 from a floor shift?
yes but you will need to find a push button transfercase to go with your swap. The other problem is the stock trucks with auto 4x4 used auto locking hubs which would have been better to use them for paper weights. If you want reliable hubs, and push button 4x4, then you will still need to get out of the cab and lock the hubs. The other option would be a set of drive flanges, but then the front diff still turns in 2x4 and can reduce your mileage and more wear on front end components. If you have a manual t-case, and put a decent set of hubs on, that would be cheaper and not any less convient than finding a electric shift t-case and a decent set of hubs.
Thanks. I was hoping that I could just put the motor onto my current t-case and hook up the wiring. I think i'll just stick to the floor shifter then. Thanks
The floor shifter is less problem prone after auto get so old they start acting up. I have a manual case ready to go if my new 94 Case acts up. Good luck on search. Avoid using the 96 electric as much as possible. It has OBD II and alot more wiring. Good luck
There isnt any, the obdII wiring is for the computer and the tranny if its an auto. I even think that the 92 computer will run the newer e4od since they didnt change much and the wiring, as well as control functions, should still be the same. The obdII think really only applies if you start switching the motors. If you plan on switching motors then the cams are different as well as the firing order.
