Was it tuned? If so who's tune? You got me interested...to say the least! What kind of 6,000 miles was it...were you pulling heavy in mountains, or driving to work and back in rural USA? Whats the dealer saying about it?
Well....it has 6,000 driving to work miles and pulling a alum gooseneck 2 horse trailer about 10 times since I bought the truck in september 06.
It had a stage 1 predator module in it for 1 day before it broke.
I think it was half way broke when I drove it off the lot...when I would pull the trailer it would not shift into overdrive and the truck would start jerking (with no module). I think the module might have finished breaking it.
I dont think it was a powerful module like the edge or bully dog to do that to the truck.
I guess it will be getting a new engine. I told those people at the place where I got it something was not right and they look at me like im goofey.
Now it's tore up from the floor up!
You should ask the dealer if you supply some ARP headstuds if they will install them. It would be a good time to get that done to have some insurance against a future headgasket failure. Especially if your gonna have a tuner.
Thought about it after and your probably getting a whole new engine instead of rebuilding the old one so not much sense to tear the new one down to put studs in.
well, after the new engine it started leaking oil. Everywhere. Had to take it back 3 times till they fixed the oil leaking. They started saying it was oil splashing up from the road since it had been raining. Please..... Since then I havent pulled my trailer with it yet. Im kinda scared to. I may do that this weekend. Now, so far it's running ok, except for all the rattles from inside the cab, the bed, and the exhaust. If I wanted rattles I would have bought a dodge. So it's going back to the shop.
A truck is never the same after a major overhaul. And that's one nice truck!
Let the dealer know how you feel about a road trip and the oil leakage, however you still will do the 'break-in' procedure all over again.
And to each his own on that subject. I did find a good link on it here doing a search.
here's one for you; tell the dealer you want to remove the muffler and install a straight pipe exhaust system to help muffle the new squeaks and rattles
Stay on their good side as best as you can, it helps iron out some of the wrinkles.
BTW where in the world is it raining now?!
It like almost 100 around these parts
again Great choice of truck.
I know, everyone told me it would never be the same. My brother told me to get it running and go trade it in on a chevy or a dodge. That is very tempting, but I have put a bunch of accessories on it.
I tell them how I feel and it feels to me that they dont care. They are glad to see you come and spend $50,000 and leave, but hate to see you come back to work on it. Yeah, they will be glad to put the exhaust on.....for no telling how much. I think they since they created the rattles they can fix them.
You need to find the local Ford "Truck" shop/Dealer. (hopefully this isn't it)
These dealers sell only Ford trucks, mainly superduty's and Up. These are the 'diesel' gurus that Ford uses, however These guys are used to working on older trucks not an '06 within the "bumper-to-bumper" warranty.
These guys can wrench! THey are good at R&R engines, trans, and any Heavy Duty jobs. Competent shops will tell the customer up front; the best place to go for the job is .....
because its a major service job and a specific diesel shop that's Ford authorized.
