Hey peeps. I once saw here where someone had a way to keep the EGR valve from opening. Can someone refresh my memory on how that was done? I dont want to replace the EGR, too pricey. But to keep it from opening, would be great. Can an EGR be gutted??
I used a small piece of steel can to make a block off plate between the EGR and the intake. Pulled the EGR valve and used the gasket for a pattern. Cut it with a pair of snips, drilled two holes for the mounting bolts, and gave it a lite coat of RTV on the sealing surfaces. Been in place for nearly a year with no problems.
Good luck Frank
When you made the steel can blocker, did it mess with your computer? Or do you have an idea to make a jumper so the EVP isnt telling the computer to add more fuel... Thanks in advance
It it never did throw a code for the EGR before or after the blocker. Don't think that adds more fuel. I did this while looking for cause of eratic idle. EGR was not the cause.
Good luck Frank
A block off plate won't fix the code, it will just not let any exhaust into the manifold regardless of what the EGR does. Think one of our sponsors sells a resistor to plug into the harness that will fix the code.
