Hey all, I just found out from the stealership that the front wheel bearings are not a servicable part and they need to replace the entire hub assembly as one piece.... is this the case? I find it hard to believe that it is not just a quick replace the bearing job on a re-build of some sort but.... what do I know right?
Any ideas for me? I might ask for the olds one if I have to get it done and try my own version of re-build for when the right side lets go.
Also wondered about the back.... any ideas of what to do or where to look?
Unfortunatly, if it is a 4x4 it is not serviceable. The whole assembly has to be replaced. And its not cheap either. If you want a serviceable unit, you can get teh Dyna Track set-up, but that runs alot more money. Its not really a hard piece to replace. When I did mine I went to the dealership and got 4 new studs and a yellow O-Ring, the wheel beasring assembly I got at a parts store. I got new studs because that was easier that trying yo fight and get the old ones out. BTW you might want a BFH and some heat to help get the assembly out.
Get the kit from www.powerstrokeshop.com It comes with the mounting studs with everything you need. Plus it is alot cheaper than Ford or most other places. Yes it is easy to do yourself. the only real special tool you need is a set of snap ring pliers....
Thanks fer yer replies fellers.... got it done at the stealership.... actually they turned out to be very nice and honest. After I got back up off of the floor (fainted after finding out they were honest), I paid my bill (a lot but might have been worse) and happy motoring until the next one lets go!
