Hello all,
i was wondering about putting a reese hitch under my front bumper. not for towing anyting, just moving around trailers and putting a shackle up front for getting pulled out of slickspots. does it take much? do i have to alter the stock bumper? this will go to a 95 f350 psd.
thanks

I put one on my 2003 SD.
Took about an hour or so.
Didn't have to modify anything,
Diff than yours though.
Works GREAT to park my 33 ft trailer in tight places.

It does not appear hard, at least not for a Reese unit. You can see a pdf of the installation instructions on Reese's website.
I bought one, but haven't installed it yet. Might not since I just picked up a Warn Transformer brush guard with a winch mount. Front hitch was originally for a multi-mount winch setup I have, but I may just mount the winch permanently instead. Don't think I can use both of them.
Black350,
I didn't do any pics during the install, all you can see now is the square tube sticking out. As bas157 points out you can see the install on the Reese site: http://www.hitchesonline.com/pdf/24009i.pdf
You have to get rid of the factory fog lights. I put some Hella driving lights in their place. They do show an install that bolts up in place of the blocker beam, interesting.

CURT Manufacturing makes a front mount for the super duties. I put one on about 2 years ago and it took me about 30 minutes. The cost was $120.00 +S&H. If i remember correctly it had a 5000# capacity with a 500# (max) tounge weight. I chose it for three reasons: 1) The front bumper did not need to be removed for installation; 2) the fog lamps can stay (they do not need to be permantly removed; 3) The hitches cross bar doese not block the openings in the front bumper that aid in getting air into the transmission cooler.
It was installed on a 2001 SD, F350, V10, Super-Cab, Long Bed, 4x4, SRW.
Scottay,
Sounds like it works for you, cool.
I wanted my front hitch for winch use ( 9,000lb pull ) and for moving my trailer
when necessary and it has around 900 lb tongue weight.
Your hitch must take away some ground clearance ?
The lights I used in place of the fogs put out as much light as my high beams
and I can drive with them on without getting flashed from oncomming traffic.
I will be checking my trans temp separately from believeing the factory gauge.

It dose have a "straight line pull" rating of 9000#. But again only a 500# tongue weight. I used it to maneuver my older trailer into tight spots. I own a 5TH wheel now so its only used for fishing rod rack and sometimes a kayak rack. The only portion of the hitch that is below the front bumper is the actual 2" receiver; less than a 1/4" of the cross tube is below the bottom of the bumper. Which for me is not an issue as I only drive on the soft sandy beaches on Cape Cod (no big rocks or deep ruts). I also don’t think it would present an issue even if I were a serious "back woods" off roader. I guess it all depends on the weight of the trailer.
