Last month I took my truck in to the dealer. They cleaned EGR and flashed PCM to where the injectors stay running for about 20 to 30 seconds after shutdown which is supposedly a good thing. Just took my truck to the original dealer I bought my truck from to get that crappy plastic hose ( CAC into intake hose where the elbow is ) replaced because it keeps blowing off. They replaced with aluminum tube and better clamp system " recall". Well they flashed the PCM again with newer flash and now the injectors dont do the 20 to 30 second thing anymore. They say because alot of people didnt like the noise Ford changed it! He told me it actually still does the same thing ( clears the injectors ) but does it extremely fast or something to that extent. Anyone else this happen too ? or does anyone have any data on this new flash ? I am glad I drove the extra miles to go to the original dealer they have alot better service but I am just confused about these flashes.
Also I believe I have read somewhere in the forums that there is a flash that disables the butterfly valve under the intake elbow, Is this true? I havent looked under the elbow inside the throttle body but I am pretty sure my 04 has this throttle body butterfly valve. I have read that some have the throttle body but the actual flapper valve is not present.
I don't know about a NEW new flash...but my truck just got the first flash this week and it's making that noise now...it irks the crap out of me. And the flash also screwed my turbo up somehow...it suddenly started binding up, so Ford replaced the turbo for me...they said that they've had that happen with several trucks with the recall.
The original flash for the injectors caused them to cycle on shutdown, which removed any oil still left in them (this was the recommended fix by Navistar). As you said, many people have complained of the noise, so Ford came up with their own solution, which is to use inductive heating to warm the oil in the injectors while the glow plugs are cycling. As I understand it, both strategies work well. I have the "buzz" on shutdown myself, and it doesn't bother me.
