My truck sits doing nothing for weeks and eventually the fuel in the carb evaporates.
What I do is take a turket baster and squirt about 3 ounces of fresh gasoline into the throat of the carb.
Usually the engine starts on the first crank and the fuel pump does its job right away.
I am a firm believer in NOT using starting fluid or ether and just consider it a waste of money.
These products were made for diesel engines not gasoline engines.
If gasoline won't ignite then there is something wrong with the spark, timing or flooding.
I like to fill the fuel bowl through the vent tubes with gas instead of directly down the carb. This does 2 things, it allows the truck to run longer if the fuel pump isnt working and hopefully if the float is stuck this will losen it to allow gas to flow. If the carb still isnt getting gas after this either the fuel pump is bad or the float is stuck.
This is the best and safest way to do it. Use the turkey baster to fill the float bowl through the vent tube.
First of all, thanks for all of the help guys! This is the most helpful forum I have ever joined.
Today was a success. The truck started, but died immediately. The one thing I was worried about was fuel getting to the carb from the fuel tank. I took the fuel line off that goes into the carb and it was full of fuel so that was a good sign! That means no clogging in the lines and the fuel pump is working. The minor set back was a fuel leak from a gasket on the carb. I think it is the accelerator pump gasket?? Not sure on that one. Easy fix though. Going to the auto store tomorrow to pick one up and hopefully get the carb back on tomorrow night!
