speedometer questions

I was wondering, can I take the mechanical speed control sensor out and put in an electrical one for an electric speedo? that way, I can then program it for gear changes and bigger tires. If not, is there somewhere I can get the plastic gears that would correspond to the gear changes and bigger tires? I would really like to make the thing accurate, because I keep breaking the OEM one when it "thinks" i'm doing 95 and breaks the spring inside

not sure about the gears but in order to get an electrical speedo to work you have to have a psom and wire from the vss in the rear to the psom and maybe some other stuff not really sure and not sure if the rears are the same but you need a ring gear in the rear that acts as a tone ring to send sound waves to the vss....needless to say i doubt it would be an easy change....maybe you could cob something together if you could find other gears maybe even just find a little gear from something other than for that particular application and make it fit on.hope you get it figured out bc i ran without a speedo for 9 months and it drove me crazy tryin to figure out what was wrong excluding the fact that i didnt have a speedo. Only to find out two simple wires were corroded in half...

I used to pick up replacement gears at ford. A 1 ton tires are roughly 33" so thats what I used in my 86. . They ask you gears and tire size and can give you an Idea. I just got one for 56 Ford at My local garage.
