Ok i'm going to add Hydraulic Assist Ram to my steering. I found a thread on a other site about taping a steering box. My question is it was on a '88 Bronco box would taping it be the same as my '78???
Second question my fluid in my power steering pump boils out after about 1 hour on the trail. I'm running D44, 4.56 gears, locker, and 36" tsl's. I already added a tranny cooler on the low pressure side and its still doing the same thing. I can't turn locked up 36's with a 14" wheel. What could this be?
its very similar! i am actually working a box right now for a buddy, tapping it and rebuilding it for him.
its all pretty much the same if you understand the concept.
you shouldnt be running hot if you have a cooler... what size cooler is it? get the biggest one you can fit on the radiator. mine is an external rad cooler from a ford truck in a j-yard i bought for $5. it cools my fluid and i am running hydro boost brakes, 2" ram, and hydro assist! you should have no problems. only thing i could suggest is mount your cooler somewhere where it can get ample air flow and add its own small yet powerful elec fan!
what p/s fluid are you running? valvoline syn power is prolly some of the best stuff out there!
o yea... what pump are you running? if its the stocker ford pump that squeals you need to go ahead and swap it out! go out to a j-yard ad get a couple of canned ham saginaw p/s pumps! they can be had a dime a dozen and will outlast the truck (might think about resealing it)
Yeah the first one is the one i looked at the second ones really helps thanks. So those canned ham pumps pump enough for like a 2.5 cylinder or should i go smaller?
lol, no no no! 2.5 is WAY to big. in fact my 2" is really too big even with the WTO pump mods. get 1.5"-1.75" ram, they are much more responsive. for a street truck thats what you need!
