I have an '82 2WD 250. I'm changing the king pins and have everything off down to the spindle. There is a nut sticking out of the front of the spindle. I removed it and it looks like a threaded bolt to nowhere. How do I get the actual pin out of the spindle??? Thanks in advance for any help. I'm in a pinch.
The bolt to nowhere is the clamp bolt for the kingpin. The new kingpin kit should included it. Thread the nut on a little ways and knock it out the other side. I is tapeed on one side. I hope you have the press to remove them otherwise you are in for a ough job.
I read on another site that Ford kingpins need to come out the top. Is this correct, or just another urban myth? I spent 3 hours beating downward on my 69 2wd std cab with a 4lb mall before giving up.
Since I have only seen it mentioned one place, my guess is this is incorrect and mine are just really stuck.

Slicemaster you just got fed a line of b.s. I've been turning wrenches 30 years and this is one the things the older techs will tell know it all beginners just to watch them beat themselves silly trying. As 85lebaront2 stated a king pin press is the way to go.Somebody is going to jump me for this but it's common practice to heat the end of the I beam with a torch. Many times they just will not move any other way.
