Now I am pretty sure what I have on my 1995 F350 is 3.43 gears. Which is sad cuz i thought they were 4.10's. But what advantages would I get out of the 4.10's? I do alot of street racing with this truck, so unless its going to help get me over 100mph faster, is it worth doing it? Also, where could I find some? Will it fit the differencial I have, or do I need to replace all of that too?
Anyone have any idea. What are the pros to getting the 4.10 gearing, and where could I find them, and what precedures do I need to go throught to get it installed. Any help be nice.
Gas mileage would go down, although your acceleration would definitely go up. I'm guessing that your rear end is probably a sterling 10.25 axle.. You can buy gears from summit or jegs for about $275. Usually you will get instructions if you get the ring and pinion set with the installation kit. It will come with shims and instructions. The only thing is you will need a dial indicator for setting the backlash. Hopefully, other people with give their opinions too on what to expect.
There are four critical settings on a ring and pinion. Pinion peload, pinion depth, ring preload and ring backlash. All require special tools and knowledge. I have yet to buy a r&p that came with instuctions. Now a bit of advice from an oldtimer. When I was 17, I used to street race a 56 Chevy that was very fast. I used to go out and blow away the rich kids in their daddy bought detroit muscle cars. It became an obsession to me. I don'r know how many times I came close to killing myself or someone else. Not because of my inability to drive, but from someone being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I remember topping out at over 120 on roads with 50mph speed limits, not good. So, rethink your street racing and stay alive. Go to the track where it is more fun anyway.
Thankyou both for your responses. Warwagon: I appreciate your concern, and your very correct in the dangers street racing presents. I guess I over use the term street racing, I rarely do, if I do, its against my brother in his Neon, so its nothing intesne, but thank you for your advice.
Yeah this puppy is quick, but yeah I have a bad habit of speeding, but yeah I prob just let this go, but what would bigger gears do for me in everyday driving and towing, better or worse?
