Rebuilt tranny- shimmer/delay shift

Rebuilt tranny- shimmer/delay shift
Just want to get some opinions here before I head to the tranny shop...
Just had the tranny rebuilt with the following upgrades:
Deep pan, TCC, clutch plates, filter, Sonnax rebuild kit, and the FTVB I supplied.
When I drove it home, the valve body didn't "punch" as much as I thought it would, so I called FTVB and told them they are shipping me another.GREAT Customer Service.
Now after driving a few days, and hitting the throttle a little harder, I notice a hesitation from 1-2, then a little shimmer before hitting 3rd. It jumps off the line real well from 1st gear, then it's like it almost slows down before hitting 2nd.
Top end is great by the way, very responsive.
My main question is, could all this be attributed to a faulty valve body or something else?
