I just want to say, I have been on this site since January, I originally needed help with my 96 PSD, and I got such great advice in that forum. Now I'm hooked. I visit the site daily and read post, and try to help others with their issues too. This is a great community. ANYWAY....
I now need some help with our 99 F350 PSD. It seems there is a problem with the exhaust waste gate (??? not sure of the actual name). It is supposed to close while the engine warms up then opens to dump the exhaust. Anyway, it seems to just pulse, opening and closing all the time, even while driving. The truck just lags and looses power. I think it should just be a sensor, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?? Thanks.
how cold is it,
and the name is the EBPV- exhaust back preassure valve.
when its cold 35 deg or below, and has low oil preassure, and or low volt,it will do that, it is a factory programmed engine warmer, when it closes, it keeps the heat in the motor, it will keep doing it untill you reach normal operating temps.
here in alaska, mine does it every day for 20 to 30 min.
Your EBPS ( Exhaust back pressure sensor ) could be sticking and could be cleaned. Its the sensor right by the belt idler pully. There is a link for better instuction on cleaning. I need to clean mine also. Do a seach for EBPS cleaning and you should find something. Thats where I would start. Some other people here can give better advice then me..
does it do this when the truck is at normal operating temp.
if so, i would look at the EBPS too. but if it goes away once the truck is warm,
its normal
Thanks, I'll look into the EBPS. We got a code for that on our 96 PSD a while ago. I haven't looked for codes on this one yet. Perhaps I'll check it out. As far as the temperature, it's been between -10 and 0 (Canadian eh!!) so it's not really cold. But I guess cold enough.
I will do a search for EBPS cleaning, thanks for the info, redfire. I'll keep you posted.
I don't have a picture of the sensor but you could unplug it in the meantime and it will default to open. That will solve your power loss problem for the moment.

Thank you so much for the info. How do I clean it?? Thanks again.
IMO cleaning a bad or even a clogged sensor is never as good as buying a new one and putting it in.
To clean it you have to remove it to gain access. It's mounted on the starboard front side of the motor, and a steel line comes out of the bottom of it that goes to the exhaust manifold.
Once it's out, brake clean, compressed air, elbow grease with a small brush, etc. until it's clean and the passage inside is clear.
Here is a pic of the sensor http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2656...99870441wqxzPeYou can look around that album and see some other pics of it. I cleaned mine with square weed eater line, flexable and strong. I ordered a new oem sensor from ebay to have as a spare.
