Your thoughts on..........

Are there any other ford motors that would fit in the expedition.

I have an 06 XLT Expy for daily driver and am thinking of getting a 98/99 expy and do a build up. I would want to go for muscle with this engine and tranny. I know that the expy weighs alot and yada yada yada. But if you can get enough power anything can be made to move, and move quickly.

I was thinking of a 5.0 from the great mustang years of the late 80's early 90's.

Any ideas

I don't know the first thing about the compatibility between a 5.4L and 5.0L, but would think a lot of fabrication would be needed to get the 5.0L (and tranny) to fit and function correctly. Why not stay with the 5.4L and build it up?

i agree with buzzard, why not just work with the 5.4, it's a good engine. perhaps get one from a navi since they've got more valves or somethin or another.

i agree just put a forced induction system on like a supercharger. the 5.0 is a car motor.

I've been tempted to swap in a 7.3 Powerstroke into mine, lot's of power options available on those.

I had a 5.0L in my 88 EB Bronco. I was very unhappy with it. Very underpowered. The 5.4 in my Expedition feels like 3 times the engine.

I would have to agree with staying with a mod motor. (5.4L) Possibly a 4V from a Navigator with a supercharger or it would interesting to see someone transplant a 03/04 cobra motor into an Expy.

Heck, keep the 2v 5.4. A cam swap, headers, head work and tuning will make a potent combo. You could also throw a blower on it.

I wouldn't swap a 4.6 into the truck. A DOHC 5.4 would be the best bet as there really is no replacement for displacement.

32V heads and a Whipple on a 5.4 would be a great combo.

I know someone with this combo (Mike's truck, madenterprise.com)...a decent-but-not-great tune got him 620hp, 606 lb-ft to the wheels, at only 15psi.

There's still a bit on the table with a better tune.

The 03/04 cobra motor would still have more hp and tq than a 5.4 DOHC motor. ( Navigator or Cobra R )

With the blower, yes. Without a blower, no it wouldn't. I personally would rather supercharge a DOHC 5.4

the power stroke would be a major chore. i don't even thik it's worth it. i'm not saying don't do it but do the ends justify it? major suspension work, frame work trans transfercase, axles, suspension.
