Hey all! Ran across this site yesterday and it seems to be really cool. I have a question I am sure some of you guys or gals can give me some ideas on. I have a 2002 F-250 Superduty Lariet extended cab, automatic transmission, with the 7.3 diesel. When I bought the truck everyone said I would get around 15 mpg and as it got broke in it was not uncommon for them to get up next to 20 mpg. Shortly after buying it I put the super chips on it which increased the power and said it would increase the fuel milaege. When the truck was new I would get the 15 mpg in the country. On a trip I would often get 17 mpg. AS time has gone by the mileage has deteriated. I have added lots of extras that improve the power and also supposed to increase the fuel milaege. I have put on the 4 inch exhaust and a K&N filter. The power is out of this world but the fuel mileage is unchanged. In the country the truck will get 12 mpg and on the highway no more than 13 to 14 at most. I bought a high tech Banks Compressor wheel for the turbo that is supposed to increase power and fuel milaege that I havn't installed yet. ( After taking a look it appeared to be somewhat of a job, is it worth it? ) When the truck had 100600 miles on it ( 600 miles past the warranty! Ford refused to make it good. ) the transmission went out. I went to Ford to get one and the transmission mechanic told me they had alot of problems with this particular transmission, that the torque converter was the downfall of them. He stated the converter I was getting with the new transmission solved this problem as they had updated it. I have looked for a recall on this transmission to no avail. I first thought that maybe the transmission may have been slipping a little for awhile and that would explain the decline in fuel milaege. Needless to say the new transmission did not do anything for the fuel mileage. Does anyone out there have any idea what I can do to inprove the fuel mileage? Why would a truck go from 15 & 17 mpg when it's new and decline to 12 & 14 mpg? It should be the other way around. The truck now has 133,000 miles on it. Also has anyone else had this transmission problem? Is the Banks Compressor wheel worth the time to put on?
Thanks, Randy
