I just had my e40d pumped and flushed by a local goodyear store and they were short by 2 quarts haveing 15 mercon v for refill and put 2 of mercon blend on top of the other and added 2 small bottles of additive that converts mercon to mercon v in the trans. is this too much additive and should I just have it redone or will it be just fine for another 50,000??? need opinion quick. This is in a deisel 7.3 1996 year.
You will be OK as long as the fluid(s) are rated for your tranny (Mercon). I've not heard of an additive to convert regular ATF into Mercon V. Mercon V is a synthetic blend (syn + regular ATF). BTW: I would change the fluid & filter sooner than 50K miles. 20K is my choice for flushes.
Did they change the filter or just pump in new fluid?
Yep they just flushed it and pushed in new fluid with the machine hooked up at atf cooler at front of engine. The brand was Kendall mercon and mercon v. The additive name I can t remember but it said it converts atf to mercon v properties when added. I had never heard of it either.

You should have the filter replaced. New fluid won't do much good if the filter is plugged. A plugged filter could be restricting the oil flow.
Trannys are not like engines. If a filter plugs in your engine the oil will bypass the filter and still lubricate the engine, not so with trannys.....they die from oil starvation. I can't tell you how many trannys come to me right after a fluid only flush. Just my .02
Bruiser, you are correct, that's what they specified in 97 but mecon v is now used in all e4od/4r100 as an alternative. Mercon V is just a synthetic blend (syn + regular ATF).
Cuda you are right sir I asked a ford tech about it and he said the same and that merc v is replacing all other atf on ford line. Guess I ll ride it 10,000 and see how it goes. Keep me straight folks.
