i bought a back window for my 79 bronco, it was at a garage sale. it has that film type window tint on it, is there a way to remove it before i put it back in the gate. thanks mudder trucker.
The degree of difficulty on removing the window tint will depend on how long the tint has actually been on there and what type was used (cheap or premium tint). Basically start at one edge and begin peeling it back. Some times it will come off in one piece, other times it will tear, which can become a pain. Peel it back slowly! You can take a razor blade and some water with hint of johnson's baby shampoo to lightly scrape off areas that wont peel off. But be carefull as to not scratch your glass and scrape off any of the defroster lines if you have some. Once you have the tint removed, you will need to remove the glue. You should be able to see the glue since your window will be hazy. Take a light scrubbing pad and a spray bottle mixture of water and baby shampoo and get to work. Once you get the glue off, squeegee the window clean and your done! It's a tedious process and something I charge a arm and a leg for when I tint car windows. Most installers will charge you anywhere from $20 to $75 depending on the size of the window. Hope this helps!
The guy who tinted my windows said straight amonia would remove window tint and the glue. The fumes are said to be pretty bad but it's supposed to work.
Haven't had to try it yet.
