Power steering pump alternative
Ive got a 79 F150 4x4 400 on 36's with stock suspension. My power steering pump is out. Is there any bolt in or easy replacement that is stronger than stock for my 36s. Thanks in advance.

You could swap in a Saginaw pump. Much superior to the factory ones. And they don't whine!

I would think the aftermarket would have superior performance type parts these days.
check with the steering or 4x4 forums.

All very well and good, but what will you use for brackets? Econolines used Saginaw pumps, F series trucks didn't.

Saginaw #20-6244 is a direct bolt-in for the F-series. It's a modified rebuilt power steering pump specifically made for 73-79 F-series. Don't go lookin' in junkyards, you won't find one.

You can get the pump (#206244) at NAPA. Probably need a pressure hose fitting adapter (#1563) for the pump to mate the high pressure line. And don't forget to add the inline filter in the return line. I did this pump conversion on my 77 in the fall. The pump mated to the original mounting bracket on my 351M with no problems.

I don't see a picture of the Saginaw. I'm considering this swap myself but not till the old one dies. I'm collecting part numbers.

But part numbers will only help if you are buying new, pumps don't have part numbers on them, only engineering numbers or the code for the pumps.
1975/79 E150/350 Saginaw pump codes: HBA-GL; HBA-GU; HBA-GV.
