Another milage question....

How accurate is the computer on my 01 350 CC longbed V10? It is reading 8.6 miles per gallon but this week I'm not getting that. To be clear I DO NOT drive very far and since the weather is cold the truck idles (probably longer than I drive it) in the driveway on work lot. When full the until empty usually reads 335 miles in the winter and when I got the truck this fall it was reading 365. Since I live so close to work I only fill up once every 8-10 days, but should I be concerned?

At least once you should manually check the mileage if it concerns you that much.

You can't do this unless you check it where you can actually get miles travelled and calculate the amount of fuel used during those miles.

Around here we have an interstate that a person can use, but there's other ways.

Who's to say that your speedo is right on the mark?

I agree with Orn. Take the truck on a long drive and calculate by hand. The computers are known to be wrong. Plus since your truck idles so much a good highway drive will be good for it.

Should do three tank fulls and average by hand. Also...try and fill-up at the same station and pump. Stop pumping at the 1st click. Unless it is a premature click...

You could also try re-setting the over-head trip computer...but lots of folks call these things, "Lie-O-Meter" by FORD.

Just noticed you have an '01. So...how many miles? Ever done a spark plug and boot change?

changed the boot or the plugs...what are the "boots"? Any suggestions on the brand of plugs to use?

AK,
The plugs really need to be changed at about 65K. I know you've heard NOT SO, but that's our collective opinion here. One reason is to assure that they are done correctly. The "boots" are the rubber extensions for the coils.

As for plugs, there's nothing wrong with OEM, which are Motorcraft.

When you get the time, perform a SEARCH on "changing plugs" here in the V10 forum. Lots of great reading and pics.

Big...I'm shocked anyone noticed! But you are right...I should have used "untimely" or "early". See what happens when a former Moderator starts stuff???

Glad to see…we can have fun here on FTE!

Yeah - sad ain't it? At least once I would like to see serious posts in here. It shocks me that krewat lets folks like Monsta get away with those antics. And then, here you are talking nasty, falling right in there. It's a shame, I tell ya.

Please make your posts more serious. Life is too short to have fun...
