I ve read the read me first in order to determine my engine...but still seem to be stuck. Im getting ready to add some bracketing etc but need which model.. I can tell you what I have if anyone could help, id love to resolve.
I have block code near starter that is stamped E5AE C3B
so....
-its a 1985, carline, engine
-I dont know what the C3 B means
I took off valve head cover and the only stamp is
- 5E13
so I assume its a 1985?
I took some pics of valves thinking it may help. Please see on my profile for pics of engine and valves
The only thing I didnt do was take off airintake manifold and look for stamps...do I really need to do this?
Thanks....ive REALLY tried to do this on own but am up against a wall I even bought the book High Performance ford Engine parts interchange without any success
If you have the vehicle the engine came from, post the VIN.
E5AE-C3B is a casting/engineering number and could be used in either a car or truck.
If you get the number off the tag from the distributor (triangle shaped) or the number stamped around base of distributor just below where cap sits, and post it, that will help.
There should also be a tag on the throttle body (EFI), post that if you have it.

well...Ive gone over truck and there are no tags were they are suppose to be. As far as VIN...I bought from a guy and he didnt do rebuild. no way of knowing where engine came from..Does taking off manifold provide anymore info?
I looked around distributor...nothing.
Is there a ton of difference in ordering parts for 302 vs 351? sorry for stupid question but Im just learning here!
looks like a 302 to me. Look at where the water pump bolts to the block just below the head gasket. if it's almost flush with the deck it's a 302 5.0 289. if the deck is
1 1/2 above where the pump bolts up it's a 351W......
